Artificial intelligence (AI) is the focus of the new UK government. It is viewed as a key driver of industrial policy. Those of us in the policy community have to be mindful of proposed regulatory approaches, and the fast pace of the technological  development. We look to the government to impose the right kind of rules on an industry dominated by companies that are themselves bigger than many countries. In this section of Iptegrity, we explore these and other issues around this exciting and dangerous new technology.

Whatever happened to the AI Bill?

We examine ongoing developments which may provide at least a partial explanation, including reports that the new DSIT Secretary of State, Peter Kyle, met with tech companies last month.

Creation of deep fakes to be criminal offence under new law

Following an election manifesto promise, the new government is expected to bring  in  a law to  ban the creation of sexually explicit deep fakes.  It was not named in the King’s Speech, but is predicted to feature in  the Crime and Policing Bill, that addresses violence against women and girls.
